FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WISLAWYER LLC FILES A NEW LAWSUIT AGAINST

THE CITY OF LA CROSSE FOR VIOLATING STATE LAW

The City of La Crosse passed a complicated rental housing registration and inspection ordinance that violates the laws of Wisconsin.

The State of Wisconsin voted to stop cities like La Crosse from hatching plans that will end affordable housing in the area and create a gross overreach of governmental power.

When Mayor Tim Kabat ran for office he never stated that he would place scattered “condemnation” signs all around La Crosse.

The City of La Crosse has seized the power to devastate a landlord’s business and livelihood for non-compliance with an illegal registration and inspection scheme.

The new ordinance also gives the City of La Crosse the power to force a landlord to violate its tenants’ 4th amendment rights against unreasonable searches and constitutional right to privacy.

With full knowledge of Wisconsin’s new law restricting this type of behavior, the City of La Crosse still chooses to go ahead with an illegal ordinance that will lead to fewer places to rent for college students and other tenants, an increase in rent for all non-homeowners in La Crosse, exorbitant fines for landlords that don’t obey and will crush the housing market by pushing away future homeowners and businesses that do not wish to comply with regulations that run contrary to state law.
